MEND

Meeting Elderly Needs by Design

Home: Welcome

OUR TEAM

MEND was founded in 2017 out of an M-HEAL incubator program. We are a multidisciplinary team composed of engineering, business, public health, and pre-medical students striving to improve older adult health and contribute to geriatric healthcare innovation.

OUR MISSION

Our team desires to develop a solution to minimize fall risk and injury among high fall-risk older adults (65+) in home and assisted living environments in the United States. We want to mitigate damage from the impact of fall incidents in order to improve patient safety and comfort as well as increase compliance to assistive device usage.

About MEND

MEND consists of an interdisciplinary team working within three subgroups: mechanical, electrical, and business. After conducting in-depth interviews in geriatric patient care environments, we were able to finalize user requirements and design specifications as we begin initial low fidelity prototyping. We aim to design a solution to promote correct fall assistive device usage and decrease fall risk during usage among older adults aged 65+ with mobility limitations / high fall risk. Our goal this semester is to begin fabricating a high-fidelity prototype for the complete mechanical device as well as to begin early-stage testing of our electrical prototype.
